I try to be fair. So, I visited the websites of elected officials in Colorado. Most of them were nothing special, but I did run across something very revealing and shocking on the website of Senator Wayne Allard. In speaking about Democracy and Human Rights, Wayne Allard says: "Protection of the human rights was the most important issue when the Founding Fathers established the Union." Does that shock you? It does me. Protection of the human rights might have been "an" issue, but how could it be "the most important" when many of the founding fathers owned slaves? Then, when you read the Constitution, you discover that Indians, people of color, slaves and women are denied the right to vote. Isn't the right to vote a human right in a Democracy? The Constitution goes on to count slaves as only "3/5" of a person and only for the purpose of determining representation. I thought "all men were created equal". The problem with Wayne Allard is, despite his education, he never read the Constitution and he never really studied history. Like so many other politicians, he never took the time to understand what he was elected to represent. His comments are an embarrassment to Colorado and the people who voted for him. I wrote to him concerning his obvious error, and he did not even have the courtesy to respond. That points out another problem with the present state of our "Representative Democracy". In our present "Representative Democracy", too many elected officials believe they are elected to "represent" themselves and their issues in Congress rather than represent the wishes of the constituency. We need to bring Democracy back to the people and stop this "Oligarchy" that is ruining our country. I believe the 2008 Presidential Election is a good place to start and a vote for Obama is a good step forward. Clinton has a lot of experience since she was the first lady for eight years, but she is too steeped in the bi-partisan politics that infect this country. Obama's leadership in Illinois and the following he built there are proof that it is time to put this man in the White House. Let's get rid of the self-serving Wayne Allards, and put a person in the White House who will really serve the good of the country as a whole.
